Season 10 - Week 7

Heseltine marches on

Heseltine makes it 7 out of 7 with another fine win (Reading away) - he has now broken the £10 mark and with a £3.49 lead at the top he looks in a strong position.  Having said that, Crunkhorn shows how quickly it can go wrong, just a couple of weeks ago we were talking about Heseltine and Crunkhorn dominating the league, he is now a massive £6 behind Heseltine.  With three weeks to go the race is far from won and with Conduit in fine form we may have an exciting finish.

At t'other end Britcliffe has now picked 0/7 and is on course for the perfect imperfect season.

Overall it was a tough week to pick, and there were few good winners, indeed the Dickov league produced the work week in history, with only 1/10 winners and a net loss of £8.28!!!

Pele League tightens, Smith drops off, worst Pele league ever?

The four way tussle at the top of the Pele league has tightened, with the top three being separated by a mere 45p, losses for Gurd and Kelly allowed Shakespeare to sneak in between them.  A loss for Smith means that he has dropped off the pace and he needs to recapture his form to match Rosser's feat of back-toback titles.

With no player on more than +£2 this could be the lowest score to ever win the Pele league (currently Southworth £4.66 Season 3).  That unwanted record is akin to being the worst team ever to win the Premiership, ironically enough that is indubitably Blackburn, the team Tony supports.

May I also take a second to mention Trevor Gibbons, who having fought valiantly to get from the fourth tier to the top tier has, on reaching the Pele league, been awful... just awful.

Top picks

Burnley away at Sheff Utd - 3.75 - Matt Gibbons - get in, I'm brilliant, Burnley were above Sheff Utd in the league, the 3.75 on offer was an insult to Burnley.

Coventry v Forest draw - 3.25 - Gary Moss - A pick from the holding league, and what a pick, draws are notoriously tough to get right, let's hope he can hold his form when he hits the leagues proper.

Hull home to Boro - 2.37 - Pete Baker -  Hull continue to beat massively overpriced for a team challenging for Europe, the big surprise is that only Pete managed to spot the value in this one.

Blackpool home to Charlton - 2.20 - John Conduit - Presumably this bet was more about the paucity of quality at Charlton than the form of Blackpool, but a good spot nonetheless, garnering him the 4th best pick of the week

Reading away at Barnsley - 2.10 - Heseltine, Shakespeare, White, Charlton, Roberts, Stapleton all picked this, but the very fact that we didn't have many big winners showed how tough the week was.

Stat Attack

This was the worst week for weather hitting the weekend predictor results on record, with a massive 12.5% of you showing a zero for the week, as your game was called off.

Of the games that were on, we lost on average 26p in the pound - a terrible week.  The biggest offenders were Wolves away at QPR and Wigan away at Arsenal, both of which let down 4 players.  The former pick is forgiveable, the latter pick was simply people trying to shortcut to the title.... although on reflection 11.00 was huge for a team playing the hugely inconsistent Arsenal.

See you later pap pickers.
