Shocks & big winning picks - Week 7

A week of shocks & big winning picks. Barca losing twice on the trot. Everton score twice late on to keep the premier league title race wide open. Wolves go down. Charlton clinch League one promotion. Swindon from league two ....even though they lost!! Tottenham continue to throw away fourth place. Newcastle continue to set the prem alight. Didier Drogba has been signed up to represent Ivory Coast at the Olympics.........Tom Daley is proper worried!!!

The Pele league is as tight as Simon Cowell’s forehead after a Botox session. Just 30p separate the first three. Nick Lines goes top with his Newcastle win. Alan Blackley failed, forgetting that Crawley aren’t the team they were under Steve Evans. Sohail Virdi kept himself in contention with the Sheff Weds win. League title still up for grabs. Not quite squeaky bum time yet.

The Maradona league top two swapped places Matthew Gibbons went back to the top with Charltons win. Jimmy Smith sunk with the Tottanic at QPR. The other winners were Dickson Pato’s Spanish omelette at Sporting Gijon @2.3 and Nigel Howlett who also chose Sheff Weds and Chris Blackley, who was the butt of a bit of banter last week when I said he was the only regular picker without a win, how did he respond? with pick of the week that’s how! West Brom’s first win at Anfield for exactly 45 years ago to the very day.(22/04/1967.) @ 7.5. it moves him off bottom to 4th in the league and relative safety.

In the Dalglish league the 100% clubs sole member is still there winning, with Newcastle @ 1.66. In any other season Martyn Cornwell would have a chance at promotion. This season however Sean Locke is still on 9.50 despite slipping up for past few weeks. Robert Paton has excelled this season and did so again with a 4-4 scottish draw at St [email protected] 3.5.

This gives him 6.80 and with 3 weeks to go unless Sean can stop his slide Robert may very well catch him up. The other picker of note was Thomas Rydeheard who did a Wigan & got himself out of the relegation zone into 5th place with a Luton Home win.

The Shearer league sees a new top two. David Lloyd’s great pick of AFC Wimbledon to beat promotion hunting Torquay @ 3.75 takes him to the top just ahead of Ayako Ono who went with Newcastle. @1.66. Bill Imrie was the other winner. Its still very tight and this one will go down to the wire.

Just two pickers in the Lineker league. Andy Ewart who led at the start but lost

when Wigan’s good run came to an end. But, well well well,... who stepped up to the mark to go top with a great overall score of NIL? Tony Southworth that’s who.!! I think he’ll agree when I say he wasn’t having the best of seasons just one winner, and then he goes and picks QPR to put one over Spurs @4.00 and finds himself top of the pile. Well done Tony promotion beckons.

In the Gazza league Al Smith stays top despite losing after being brave with his pick. But its a family affair in 2nd and 3rd. Dad Darryn Cook went safe with Newcastle @1.66 and stays 2nd but his boy Daniel Cook is looking to knock dad of his promotion pedestal with a cracking pick of Real Madrid to beat Barca @5.00 (2nd best pick of the week). This family battle can only end in tears for one of them me thinks. Worth a mention too was Mervyn Davies who predicted Bolton/Swansea 1-1 [email protected] 3.3.

Of the 3 pickers in the Lee Pineapple league the only success was from James ‘you can usually depend on me’ Holland who is 3rd in the overall league he picked the draw at Villa @ 3.25.

He is way out in front of Steve Tester who must have thought he was safe this week with Man Utd to win at home. As Jimmy Greaves once said ‘Its a funny ol’ game’

The Holdsworth was quiet this week with Casey Williams winning with his first pick of Charlton @ 1.57. This is usually the place where the big picks are. But not this week when across the leagues there were 9 winning picks paying over 2.00.

But I am gonna big up CASEY WILLIAMS this week. He may be a new picker but he said my analysis is ‘really fun to read’. So this analysis is dedicated to you CASEY WILLIAMS. Welcome and long may your appreciation of my writing continue.!!!

Top 3 picks: Chris B @7.5 – Daniel C @ 5.00 – Tony S @ 4.00
Top worst (most hopeful) picks: Douglas K - Wolves @13.00 – David R & Grant E - Everton @ 11.00
Unluckiest pick of the week: Duncan with Sunderland to win @ 3.00 (0-0 Bendtner was never offside line-o)
How could I have got it so wrong pick of the week: either Ricky J - Stoke to win away at Newcastle(3-0) or Al S - Motherwell to win against Celtic. (0-3)

3 weeks to go. Summer may be here by then who knows. Just had my hosepipe ban letter from the bedraggled postman but couldn’t read it cos it was so wet... as its been pi**ing down here for 2 weeks straight!!!!!!!Only in England!!

See you next week.
